Gol Dhana Ceremony has a symbolic importance, with roots in ancient traditions.

The meaning of Gol Dhana Ceremony is "sesame seeds" (Gol) and "jaggery" (Dhana), offered during the ceremony. This symbolizes sweetness, good health and prosperity for the child. Preparing the timing for Gol Dhana Ceremony: A special muhurat is decided for the Gol Dhana Ceremony. On that day, both families come together and bring gifts for each other which contains different elements. These elements have a significant meaning which defines the love and happiness of a Gujarati Marriage bond.

Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration

The decoration for a Gol Dhana Ceremony includes decorating a mandap. With different flowers, decorative items, and curtains. Nowadays, all the ceremonies are celebrated at a specific resort or a lawns. specially dedicated for marriage functions, birthdays, corporate events etc. In the Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration, the mandapam is decorated with a variety of flowers like, marigolds, pink lotuses, white lilies and more. These flowers are strung in garlands and hanged around the walls and pillars of mandapam. Sometimes, flower petals are also used to create decorative patterns around the altar or prayer area.

Torans

Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration: Torans are decorative items made from flowers, mango leaves, or beads that are hung across doorways and windows. These torans are hung on the entrance doors and walls. Idols and Pujas (Prayer Setup)

In Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration, in the prayer space idols of lord Shiva and lord Ganesha are placed. The Prayer space (Mandir) is decorated with lightings and flowers. Diyas are placed in front of the idols and at the entrance of the mandir. The idols are offered fresh fruits, sweets, coconuts and bhogas. This is an essential part of the Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration. Later, prayer rituals are offered. The Mandir is decorated with colorful curtains in the background and long garlands one beside the other. Also, a Toran is hung at the entrance door.

Table Setup

Table setup is yet another important part of the Gujarati Gol Dhana Decoration. It is decorated with the Gol Dhana offerings. The table is covered with a bright cloth. Sesame seeds and jaggery is placed on the table. Silver and brass plates are used to hold the offering and small bowls are used to keep the sesame seeds and jaggery. Other items like tilak, kumkum, haldi, plate for arti is placed on the table. Table is decorated with flowers, and colorful fabric on it. 

Gol Dhana Ceremony Celebration

The bride's family and groom's family come together to celebrate this ceremony. Bride's family brings sweets and gifts to the groom's family. Such as rice, wheat, and grains. Few gifts for the groom and his parents. The couple exchange engagement rings. After the engagement rings are exchanged, the couple seeks blessings from the elder people of the family. They typically seek blessings from five elderly women of both the families. After this the groom's family offers gifts for the bride such as clothes, and other makeup items which belong to a bride to be. The Gol Dhana Ceremony is followed by feast for the guests and all the people, celebrating the Gujarati Cuisine. Sometimes the feast may contain the typical Gujarati Thali or local cuisine.
